I have to get this one going again.

Daniel is joining the Navy in August, and he is starting to do "real" p.t. for the first time in a long time. He held his own first time out, but was about three milutes slow on his 1.5 mile run, and didn't do so hot with situps and pushups. So... Jennifer and I were at Costco today, and bought the ("As seen on TV!) Perfect Pushup things. I accurately predicted that I would be able to do one pushup. Time to kick it up a notch and get back into training mode for yours truly.

Don't feel bad. I did one at our house- that makes me the champ! Jennifer was laughing too hard to do a girl pushup. I did a bunch of yardwork today, and that DEFINITELY counts as a workout!

Trimming bushes- wow! I only did it for a few hours, and I'm already sore. It's okay- tonight Daniel and I are going to start on freeweights.

I got back on the Gazelle today after a couple months hiatus- ~45 minutes. Now all I have to do is keep at it!

LauraA

I can't even do one pushup. I can do the girl pushups where you have your knees on the ground, but that's it.

Same here. Even in middle-school and early high-school when I was in gymnastics, couldn't do a push up. My legs were strong, but not my arms. LOL. Just call me wimpy.

I'm still kind of trying to take off a few pounds. I got down to my goal last December, then put a little back on and I'm stuck there. Maybe it's where I'm supposed to be, but according to those CHARTS! Grrr. I have to lose 10 pounds. Again.

Just bumping this up....I get weighed in less than a month! I'm scared hehe....but I got a great compliment last night....

My friend came to pick me up and he drives a truck, so he had to lift me up into it. I was just waiting for him to grunt and drop me....but he practically threw me into the truck. Then he goes "Man that was a lot easier than I thought it was gonna be!" I was like "Thank you!!!" :p Definitely took it as a compliment *wink*

Those charts are stupid.

LOL! Thank you. I have to agree. They should take age and bone structure into account. Now it's just stuck in my head that I'm in the "overweight" catagory. :( I think I've taken off a couple of the pounds. I have a pretty bad cold and can't taste anything, so why eat much? Just if my tummy rumbles and says, "FEED ME". ;)

Thanks Laura! ;)

I've heard the last ten pounds are always the hardest to get off. I know its true because if I had stuck with the WW meetings I would have been close to being a lifetime member had I lost only 4 more pounds. I lost 76 pounds the first time and kept it off for 3 years. And now I started 10 pounds lighter than the first time I was on WW.

But maybe if I keep myself accountable to checking in on here I will keep on track.

Well it has just been a whirlwind of a day!!!! Had to drive 30mph on the highway all the way to my appt so we got there late, and my dr had a noon meeting so I had to wait till 1 to see her. Then we're finally ready to get out of there and dad realizes he can't find the key! So we had to wait an hour for the locksmith to come, then on the way home we had to drive 30mph in several places. So my quick checkup appt turned into a 5 1/2 hour adventure!!!!

But......there is good news.....

I'VE LOST 14 LBS!!!!!!!!!!! :D :D :D

I work with kids hehe...that means kids meals for lunch AND dinner. I was thinking about that cause I was like "I changed what I did for like 2 weeks then went back to my old ways...how could this happen?" Then I realized, I've either been working in a school where I usually ate the cafeteria food, or just packed a sandwich, then I went to kids club twice a week where we ate the same teeny tiny meals. Then of course dealing with kids all day helps you burn lots of calories! :p

I've been doing quite bad with the weight thing. Summer. Vacation. Now the state fair today. Yikes. I keep pulling that "I'll start over tomorrow" stuff. How do you kick that? I don't want to gain a lot of weight back. Gotta stop now. Fair or no fair. Cream puff or no cream puff. ;)

Sami and I split one, and I LOVE the creamy filling, even if it's not frosting. So I put a big hunk of it on my finger and gobbled it up. Sami cracked up.

All of a sudden that Veggie Tale Song, "Temptation" came into my mind...oops. It wasn't worth the fat, calories or guilt, so don't anybody get drooling over cream puffs, ok? :D

So apparently the key to weight loss success for me was living on my own.

I've lost 7.6 pounds since Wednesday. And it's not because I haven't been eating. I just purposefully made sure when shopping for my apartment to not pick anything readily eatable except fruit and Saltines. And then I picked stuff that I could make multiple meals of at one time. I've never cooked for myself, so it's been a bit of an experiment. So far I've made chicken teriyaki with rice and ended up having enough for two meals. I also made some rotini with chicken and pasta sauce, which turned out to be enough for three meals.

So I guess I just needed to get away from home where my parents buy tons of junk food and readily eatable stuff. Those are dangerous for me because I eat when I'm bored. And also getting out of a dorm where you have to get a meal plan for the caf, which has a buffet.

Ditto! I haven't weighed myself or done anything official, but when I go grocery shopping, I buy the low fat stuff and really watch what I eat. Also being broke and living on loans makes a difference, because you really are forced to avoid eating out! :) Or to cut your portions in half so you have two meals! LOL

I'm in love with those 100 calorie snack packs, because sometimes I snack just because it's there. When they put it in a package, you eat the package and you're satisfied!

Laura, I read this thread on the other board. I never posted because there are some things that I'm really personal about. But I think your responses and witness have been fantastic!!

I get weighed in a couple weeks. I'm scared....right in the midst of holiday season! My mom's second issue is getting ready for release and in it she has a really good holiday article. I'll have to post it here.

One thing it says to do is pick TWO treats you will allow yourself to indulge in during the holidays. And stick to those two only. If you go to a party where neither of your two choices are available, don't eat anything sweet and when you go home, treat yourself to one of your choices.

Aaron- WOW! That is amazing! How are you feeling?

I went to the doctor last Thursday to be weighed and lost 6. I'd like to take off 15 to 18 more, then I'd be back at my goal weight.

Amy, if you remember that you can eat anything you want, just keep portions small, you'll do fine over Christmas. As for me...that is easier said, then done. But even if I do it half the time, it's better than not doing it at all...

Wow, this thread got buried!

Well, I saw my doctor again because I've gained some weight and I need to get a grip on it before I end up back where I was a few years ago. I DO NOT want to go back to that.

So. My doctor ok'd for me to go back on the diet pill I was on, and I'm doing WW (on my own) along with it. Some may not agree with taking pills for weight loss, but it's the only way that has been successful for me.

Somewhere in my late 30s I think, I put on a LOT of weigh. It was a combination of factors that led to it, one of them being meds for migraine prevention. But I simply liked food, and gained more weight than I ever had. I tried everything. EVERYTHING! Finally I went to the doctor and said I needed help, and I wanted a pill to take the edge off my appetite. I've tried almost everything available, but the one that finally worked for me was phentermine. I lost 144 pounds on it and hit my goal weigh in Dec. of 07.

Today, a year and 4 months later, I found that I've gradually put some of it back on.....55 pounds to be exact. BAD! So, I'm back on the pill and the doctor said I may end up having to be on it for years, (3 times a week), just to maintain. I am signing a release for that says I'm taking this at my own risk and won't hold the clinic accountable if I have any side effects. But I was on it for a year and I was totally fine with the med. Some people do have problems with it, pounding heart and high blood pressure, but I never had that. Yesterday my bp was 102 over 66. I will have it checked every month to be sure it doesn't go up, but I don't think it will.

Sorry, didn't mean to jabber here. Just felt like sharing this. We each have our own issues and our own ideas on what we have to do to feel good about our health. I know for me that if I don't have some help, I am too "weak" to lose on my own. Jesus help me! OH, plus I'm a stress eater, and I live with a lot of stress. (Responsibilities like crazy, a job that I don't care for, not enough time for everything I need to do, etc.)

So. With all that said, how are you all doing? Is anyone else struggling with their weight? On a diet? Starting a life change concerning eating habits? Trying to gain weight? What's up?

ugh, i've wanted to lose weight for quite a while now. not a LOT of weight, but....definitely SOME weight. instead, i seem to be gaining MORE - i am now less than 20 lbs less than what i weighed when i GAVE BIRTH to noah! :O (let me just say, for the record, that i am soooo NOT ok with that!)

i'm a stress eater - with an abundant, never-ending supply of stress factors - eating more with each bit of stress, or new layer of existing stress....

i've got a serious sweet tooth - every now & then, i prefer the salty, but....for the most part, i'm ALL ABOUT the comfort foods (ice cream....chocolate...etc...)....

i have serious food issues - having not had enough food soooo many times in my life, for extended periods of time, i have this sick clean-my-plate mentality...it's totally subconcious, but..if there is food in front of me, i eat. even if i'm so full i can't STAND myself - i think it's a psychological fear that i need to get it while it can, because i know all too well how quickly it can be there & then gone for weeks

my metabolism is totally jacked up, with the frequency & duration of time frames with not enough food....my body is NOT willing to let any calorie go, because it has the same mentality about caloric intake that i have about FOOD intake

now, i KNOW that i'm not OVERweight.....the # on the scale is finally a weight that is "healthy" for my height. and, when i started gaining the weight, i absolutely, positively, without-a-doubt NEEDED to gain some weight. 10lbs, for sure....20 lbs didn't hurt. but this EXTRA 20 lbs has GOT to go.....

unfortunately, the "30's" metabolism has caught up with me (sigh), and.....no matter how balanced & healthy my meals are, and how much exercise i do, it just doesn't seem to be doing it. but mere mention of "diet" or "weight loss" or any other such term brings a huge lecture & lack of understanding from whoever i happen to be talking to. i realize that i'm not 18 anymore, and i'm ok with that. i don't want to get down to the weight that i was. i just want to lose 20lbs. :S

i totally need to go to the gym....wish i had a friend here that wanted to go, too - that would make it so much easier to find the motivation to go!

LauraA
05-08-2009, 08:13 AM
I so know what you mean, Cori. Before I got down to my goal weight, I had people telling me to stop the diet. And I was still in the "overweight" category. No way. My goal was to get one pound into the "normal weight" range. And that I did, and that is where I stopped dieting. Now I wish I'd of taken off another 5 pounds so I had some cushion (no pun intended) in case I gained a few.

I will eat because of stress, too. I've found that chewing gum and drinking LOTS of water helps with that.

I also eat "fast, easy" foods because I'm too busy to work on making a meal, and too impatient to wait for it. A big fault of mine.

Cori, have you ever thought about Weight Watchers? I could tell you how to do it. (I'm not a member, just know how it works). You can eat ANYTHING you want, just keep track of your total points (easy) and stay in the range to take off weight. I love it. It's freedom.

You're in my prayers. Let me know if you'd like to know the basics of WW. Give me a call if you want. (((HUGS))) and BUGGWADD!!!

I'm bumping this thread back up....just watched the Biggest Loser season finale and I'm more determined than ever to lose these last pounds.

If you recall, I was weighed in Jan 08 and was FLOORED by the number on the scale! I knew I was overweight but had no idea I was THAT overweight! I made a goal to lose 50lbs by Jan 09. I was weighed again in July 08 and had lost 14lbs!!! I was well on my way to my goal, or at least close to it. Unfortunately they were not able to weigh me in Jan 09 at my appt (the scale is electronic & wasn't charged at the time). I will be getting weighed again in June or July (gonna call them the week of my appt and ask them to make sure the scale is charged!) and hope to see SOME sort of improvement, but the way I've felt lately, I'm just sure I'm going in the opposite direction :( My mom's new job has actually been a blessing though because she's home for dinner & cooks big, but HEALTHY, meals....salmon, organic sauces, whole wheat pastas, etc. So I'm hoping that helps, but I need to get back on a regular exercise routine as well!

I remember a while back my dad made spaghetti & I noticed the sauce was different. He told me "It's organic...it's full of lots of good stuff." I said "Like what?" & he goes "I don't want to say cause then you won't eat it" :p I was like "Dad, I'm already eating it & it's good!" He then proceeded to list every veggie under the sun! And I'm SO not a veggie eater. I was shocked! So if there are certain good-for-you foods that you're not particularly fond of, you can certainly find ways to hide them from yourself ;)

hmmm, weight watchers sounds promising, but....i don't know that i can afford to start the program. we don't really have much extra money to begin with, and, what little we do have, we're pouring into house repairs (re-doing ALL of the flooring in the house is the first of MANY things on the fix-it list) to hopefully find a buyer who doesn't want to try to negotiate us down from our asking price because of repairs that need to be made.

let me look into start-up costs, etc... and see what i think i can manage, budget-wise. i'm not too sure, though, that even if i CAN pay for it, cameron would even let me do it! here's a run down of EVERY conversation i have - with ANYONE - regarding my weight:

me: yeah, i need to lose a few pounds
other person: WHAT?!?! no you don't!
me: reeeeeally, i do....
other person: *rolls eyes* please...you look fine
me: no really - i've gained SO much weight in the last few years...
other person: *interrupts my previous statement* well, you were TOO thin before...(apparently many people actually thought i was anorexic, so....if the other person in the conversation is one of them, that card may or may not be played here...)
me: yeah, but..i've gained 40 lbs in the last 3 yrs - that is NOT cool!
other person: *dinner plate eyes* really?!?! i didn't even notice! (um....what? PLEASE! lol) you look fine, you don't need a diet...

so....i would definitely have to keep it hush hush, or i would be lectured, reprimanded, and possibly threatened with psychological evaluation to make sure i don't have an eating disorder. it's pretty ridiculous, really, but.....if i can budget for the ww, and if cameron will go for it, i look forward to your help with it, laura! (dude, hooray for the quick fix meal! i don't know what i'd do without it! buggwadd!) i am SUCH a red-flag for some kind of eating disorder, actually, that last year, before he died, i had asked joe for the recipe to the cabbage soup diet, explaining that i only wanted to drop the extra 20lbs i gained over & above what i NEEDED to gain, and...he made the copy for me, but he handed it to me folded, INSIDE a church bulletin - he literally SMUGGLED it to me! and he asked me to, preferably just not let anyone know that i even HAD it, but to definitely not let anyone know where i got it from. so....i at LEAST have to talk to cameron about it & get the ok from him....everyone else can just deal with their opinions on whether or not i should be dieting...

in the meantime, i have found gum chewing great for curbing the uber-stressed-must-consume feeling, but...i'm not a big water drinker. i just..i know it's good for me, blah blah blah, but....i like FLAVOR. unfortunately, i like SWEET flavor....it was pepsi for a long time, til i had to boycott them. since the boycott, it's the arizona sweet tea (YUM!!!!!) - i bet it would do me a world of good in this issue to just suck it up & switch to water instead of the tea. ok....hold me accountable laura - i'll tell you when i've finished the last of the tea that's in the house....don't let me buy more than 1 gallon a payday (every 2 wks) - that will ensure that i drink more water because i will either be forced to ration the tea, so it will last (drastic times call for drastic measures, man...lol), or i'll have ONLY water to drink once the tea is gone in the first 2 days. lol anyway...

off to bed...tomorrow...packing & budgeting...

think he'd be willing to share the recipe for the sauce with us, kell? my kids actually BOTH eat spaghetti - and noah HATES anything that even closely resembles a vegetable...if i can sneak them into spaghetti sauce, it'll make the spaghetti more palatable for cameron & i (it's currently 1 pkg noodles + 1 jar of sauce....i can't get the boys to eat it if i put meat in it, so i cook some meatballs for cameron & i, but it's still pretty bland...) and hopefully my little genius will be none the wiser about his vegetable consumption! :D

I do WW on my own, have never been a member. It's just the basics of the program, but it works for me. I've lost 9 pounds in the past 10 days, thank you, Jesus! (I always lose really fast at first, but then it slows down, the closer I get to my goal.) I'm finally feeling like I can do this, again! I can tell you the basics of the program and how to do it. It's so easy.

Again, gum chewing and lots of water. Also, I make a huge salad, and keep it handy. Veggies are "free" on WW. (No points), but the dressing and cheese have to be counted. (FF or lowfat dressing and reduced fat cheese.)

Keep going everyone. You can do it!

Cori, it wasn't homemade...it was a bottled organic sauce (I don't remember the brand but I'm sure you can get it in just about any brand).

Another good site is http://www.mypyramid.gov/mypyramid/index.aspx. You enter everything you eat in a day & it evaluates it for you and let's you know what you need more of and less of. You can also track your exercise. And it's free. But as Laura said you can also do WW for free on your own. Just can't attend the meetings and weigh-ins.

Edit: The site listed above is wrong. Although I do recommend checking that out...it will evaluate your current nutrition based on your height, weight, and age. It will give you a rundown of how much of each food group you should get in a day. Once you get that, then go here for the daily food tracker: http://www.mypyramidtracker.gov/Default.aspx?Module=3

And just a warning...if you do the physical activity eval, it is THOROUGH!!!! You have to enter if you take a bath, dressing & undressing, how many times you eat....I guess they really want an ACCURATE calorie burn count :p
