Did you know that golf balls are made out of hundreds of rubber-bands that are shaped in the form of a ball? [The reason I know this is because I live behind a golf course (although I've never been golfing yet.. hahaha) and the T-off area is right behind my house (or you could say my house is to the side of the golf course; from the golf course perspective) so sometimes golfers accidently hit golf balls into my yard. So one day my dog found this golf ball that got hit into our yard, and he torn it apart. That's how I made the discovery! I wonder how many golfers know what their golf ball is made of..]

Did you know that those yellow street lights (not the white ones) produce light by lamps that contain sodium vapor (the reason the lights produce the color yellow is because the most intense color lines in the spectrum of sodium are shades of yellow). Did you know that each lung contains around 300 million alveoli? it is estimated that if the alveoli were flatted out they would cover the surface area of a tennis court. That's from both lungs of one person. When you stand on a tennis court now after knowing this it's like WOW! so i hope you remember this when you go on a tennis court again and every time there after. God amazes me in how He packaged us! Doesn't that blow you away!

^Convicted-love your last "Did you know?!!!":D

Here's something that'll get some of you freaking out...

A calorie is a measure of heat. (in that case, shouldn't ice cream have ZERO calories? It's cold!) However, a calorie is actually so small that they don't measure individual calories -- they measure them by the thousands.

So, if something says it has 1 calorie, it actually has 1000.

So that McDonald's Double Cheeseburger? 440,000 calories.

You may commence freaking out. :P

Kelly
05-03-2009, 09:14 AM
Hehe well then wouldn't that mean that there are actually 3,500,000 calories in a pound...not 3500? In that case we should all be super skinny you would think? :p

djbos

Aw, come on, science is fun! :) It was always my favorite subject in school- from kindergarden to the present day. But my school didn't teach us in-depth about calories (or if they did my memory of that has faded) so I didn't know that! But thanks Labby for sharing that information with us! I will be sure to store it in my memory bank for future reference.

Speaking of science, let's do some more "Did you know's?"

Did you know that the sky is blue because of quantum effects involving Rayleigh scattering combined with a lack of violet photon receptors in our retinae? The sky is blue because it scatters blue light from the Sun.

Did you know that the oceans look blue because that's the only light they let pass through?

Did you know that color is nothing more than a wavelength of light?

Did you know that green is the color that's produced the most by the Sun?

Did you know that a "shooting star" is not a star, but a meteor?

Did you know that the word "Astronomy" comes from the Greek word "astronomia" which means: astron + nomos = "Law of the Stars."?

Did you know that it takes like 2.5 million years to reach your eyes from the Andromeda Galaxy (the closest galaxy to us)?

Did you know that there are 206 bones in the adult human body and there are 300 in children (as the kids grow some of their bones fuse together)?

Did you know flea's can jump 130 times higher than their own height? Which would be like a 6ft. person jumping 780 ft. into the air.

Did you know the ears of a cricket are located on the front legs, just below the knee?

Did you know Hawaii is moving toward Japan 4 inches every year?

Did you know moths have no stomach?

Did you know lobsters have blue blood?

Did you know a mosquito has 47 teeth?

Did you know that ants do not sleep?

Did you know that a duck's quack doesn't echo?

Did you know the "save" icon on Microsoft Word shows a floppy disk, with the shutter on backwards. ( I just read that and went and looked for myself! LoL )
