Is any one going to The Springfield OH gig with Rush of Fools? I will be there and this is also a SLTW opportunity as they are asking for new shoe donations for kids school ages K-5th.

Yes ma'am!! I want so bad to go. J specifically asked me if I was coming... but I will have to see how prepared I am. The problem is, it's a 9:00 A.M. exam, so I would actually have to leave J's show probably a little early... and I've never done that in my life!!!!
Did my bro come to the M&G? I haven't talked to him since the show.
*light bulb* Hmm... maybe I can contact administration and change the exam date due to "extenuating circumstances." ;)

:D
My studying is going well, so I thought I'd reward myself.
It looks like I messed up the ticket order. I thought I was getting 6th row, but I was in the mezzanine section. Oh well, at least it's center!
Two negatives:
*I have to leave right after the show, so no autograph line and no boardie dinner.
*I will not have time to find affordable shoes to donate in 1 1/2 days.

Hey Todd, if I paid 1/2, could you just stop at Wal-Mart and pick up a pair of shoes? I'll mail you a check if you let me know how much they are. I checked into mailing some...I have a pair here, but it was almost as much as the shoes. LOL. Wallies has some cute shoes for kids, sandals and stuff.

yes Jeremy was in a great mood..having spent the day with the Salvation Army! had fun all night...the salvation army crowd was awesome...I think everyone lost their voice...including Jeremy! Jeremy Played for like 2 hours.
Lots of improv ... he even desided to throw in ALIVE and could quite remember all the words...lol.. Jeremy also tryed his hand at making up a jazzzy song on the spot!
Jeremy spent lots of time chatting and asking us questions at the meet n greet and then he was off to a very long signing line...Long night but so much fun.

OK, I will try to be brief. :)
I haven't seen Rush of Fools in forever. It's one of those weird things, I knew their entire first album, so they were awesome when I used to seem them. But I didn't really know the songs this time so it was tougher. They are still a great band and über cool people.
The J show itself was fantastic. I had an exam this morning. I remember way back in the day we were teasing Dan The Man for not going to a close show because he didn't have a ride (when he could have used the train). I said, "When I'm in law school, I'll be at a close show, even if I have an exam the next day!" Well, I put my money where my mouth is. I am so glad I went.
I can't believe that after 37 times, I still get that feeling, like, "What am I doing here again?" And then after 37 times, when the show starts, I'm like, "Oh yeah! That's why!" I still get super excited for the night of worship. It's so hard to explain, especially to my unsaved friends. I brought a friend with to the last show I went to, and she understood after going to the show! Hahaha.
J did the usual suspects of songs. J was in an awesome mood. The off-tour gigs are by far my favorite. There is no set minute-to-minute action. The stories were fresh. He was telling us how he and his wife pay his daughter a dime for certain chores ("Like mowing the law. Just kidding, trying to see if you guys were paying attention."). That brought me back to when I was little, my grandparents would give me a nickel or dime or whatever for various chores like sweeping the floor. Apparently, Bella asked for $11 that day. "Yeah, we're teaching our daughters to be servants." It was just a hilarious random story.
There was also a cool "I love you this much" story, that I hope he continues to share. There's no way I could put it into words, you have to see J do it with the motions. It was a really funny, yet punch-you-in-the-gut story.
The Salvation Army did a shoe drive, so J got to spend the day with them, which is another reason why I think he was in such a great mood. When he was introducing the band, he told them to play some music. I think they started to play "I shot the sheriff" because I know they've done that song, and J said, "I can't sing this." (Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, that's how I remember it going.) Anyway, he started to make up a tune about how cool the Salvation Army is for giving away shoes. I have to admit, it was pretty neat. He said that was the first time he's done that, and that was definitely the first time I remember that happening.
Those of you fortunate enough to remember the old "intimate" shows (and those even more fortunate than me to see him with only 50-60 people), do you remember how he always blamed his ADD for everything when he lost track? Well as a fellow ADD-er, I always kept track with him. Well, he never once blamed ADD, but he went off track so many times. People in the crowd were extra rambunctious and he said, "Why is everybody yelling at me!?" Somebody behind me said, "Oh, he is so precious." Haha!
Once again, I love those shows where J is just J and he does whatever he wants. He went off set list and sang Take My Life. It was either during this song or shortly thereafter that he blew his voice. But he still did a couple more songs. As long as he's in charge, I don't think he can ever retire Take My Life!
The Salvation Army then did another little tidbit at the end of the show where they had Red Carpet Treatment for some young ladies. I'm not sure exactly what that meant, but the band gave them roses. Then the MC said that J was going to do one more song. You could tell that J's voice was hurting, but he still went out there and WORSHIPED INTENSELY. I'm telling you, he put every extra umph that he had into that song. He did not hold back or go wimpy at all. That, my friends, is the J we love. He's there to glorify God not get glory for himself. At a secular concert, the show probably would've been over if somebody blew their voice.
He also jumped off of one of the risers. No joke, the last time I saw him do that was in late 2004. It was so cool!
The time? 10:30. When did J start? 8:30. We got about 2 hours of J! That in itself was awesome. I really needed to get home for my exam. A long line for the autograph line had started, and I was debating whether I was going to stay. Cara, bless her heart, since we didn't have a M&G before the show, convinced Adam to convince Walt to give us a M&G after the show. Thank you so much! That was such a blessing.
I want to apologize to everyone at the M&G. I was pretty giddy and possibly obnoxious. ;) It's been a LONG time since J has straight-up talked to us like that.... asking our opinions about songs, and how the show went, and what song should go on the radio. (I told him "Breaking My Fall" and/or "Looking Back" but he hushed me and told me to be serious. Then I wasn't allowed to answer because I had already told him "Slow Down Time" was my favorite off the new album.)
To have that kind of reception, you have no idea how cool that is. There is no way somebody could be that fake. J is the real deal. He asked me what he should sign, and I said, "When's the last time I asked you to sign anything?" Haha, he accused me of not having Speaking Louder Than Before. I promised him that I had it, and he said I probably didn't like it. I said, "You know what my favorite album is," and he said, "Probably Stay." Yuppers. It's so cool that somebody is so real and actually listens to you. I honestly don't know if I'd be where I am today emotionally, or even in law school, if it wasn't for that album!!
After the M&G, they took him out to sign. He hadn't planned on signing that night, he had told them they weren't, and his voice was blown.... but he still went out there in signed! Now that's our J!
It's so cool to see how he hasn't changed in the 5 years I've been a part of this. I really hope that there are 5 more years, God willing!
It was great to meet everybody again, especially Cara's shy and quiet roommate!
In case JB is reading this, this is for you: There were quite a few Black people in the crowd! You would have been so excited! I remember when you were excited about one more Black person. I'd say there were several, and the crowd was only 1400.
I can't wait for next time, y'all!
(See, I told you I'd keep it short!) :D

That's hilarious - "Why is everybody yelling at me?" Hehehehehehe too funny!!!
"I can't believe that after 37 times, I still get that feeling, like, "What am I doing here again?" And then after 37 times, when the show starts, I'm like, 'Oh yeah! That's why!'"
Amen! My mom asked me how I could see him 3 times in one year. If only she understood! :p
Oh and I LOOOOOOOVE the "I love you this much" story!!! He told that at the last show I went to and oh man, it had me in tears! So precious!
Thanks for sharing! Sounds like yall had a great night! Only 7 more weeks till I get to see him! :D

Woot! I checked my calendar and I have at least 2 months (Spirit Song, Cincinnati?), and maybe only 3 (Indy State Fair).
Back in the day, this is the type of review that was expected of me after every show. I hope that this does not mean this is required in the future! ;)
And of course, I remembered a few more things.
NOW I get what you guys are saying about the "new" This Man. See, I totally thought it was part of the live performance, and loved it. But it really is totally different, in an awesome way.
And J had another story about how when he has 10 minutes to spare, instead of hanging out with God, he sits there and looks for the newest iPhone app. Another gut-kicker, but a good one! :)
Cara, post some pics already! ;)

Excellent review, Todd! I lived it with you as I read it. Love the detail, thank you for sharing with us...and yes, every concert there is a review required. LOL. You can do it!
Jeremy told the "I love you this much story" in Springfield, too. And for the life of me, I can't remember the details of it. The day was so packed with incredible-ness, if that's a word. (If not, you get the idea.)
I totally loved what they did with "This Man"!! Now when I hear it on the radio, my mind goes into the new version. I told Randy how much we liked it and he confessed that he was the one that came up with it. Awesome!
What a blessing! I'm happy you all had such a great time and were refreshed in your spirit. I'll be praying for Jeremy's voice, that he is able to rest it. He doesn't have a concert until tomorrow, I think.
Can't wait to see Cara's pictures.

Hehe I know what you mean Cara! My first M&G was w/ Jeremy & Toby together. Met Toby first, then moved on to Jeremy. I SO wanted a pic with Toby AND Jeremy together, but I was way too nervous & shy to ask. I just took what I got.
Then at my second M&G, I actually BEGGED Matt to be in the picture with us! :p He was so cute. When J said "Hey did you want a pic?" I was like "Oh, yeah!" and Matt grabbed my camera & goes "I'll take it". I said "Well actually I was hoping you'd be in it too." Matt and J both go "Awwwwww" & Matt goes "Naaaaaah!!!" I gave him the puppy dog face & said "Pleeeeeeeeeeease!" & he jumped right in :)

I remember my first M&G, I didn't know if I should as for a picture. And then beyond that, J seemed like a macho dude so I didn't know if I should put my arm around him. But he literally threw his arm around me and grabbed be tight. Ha, J is the man!

I just think it's funny that at my first M&G my MAIN goal was to get a pic w/ him & at my second M&G, he had to ask ME if I wanted a pic! Totally would've rolled outta there without one! Just goes to show that when you meet J he makes you feel like you're talking to a long-lost friend & not a celebrity ;)
And I hear ya on the arm thing! At my first M&G I was just gonna sit there next to him w/ my arms in my lap & he knelt down next to me & threw his arm around me. I was like "Well if HE'S doing it...." Hehehe....and I snuck my arm around him. I'm pretty sure it was shaking the entire time :p
