Last August 10th, I was placed in a local police cruiser to be taken to the firehouse to meet a medical helicopter that was to take my son to Children's Hospital in Cincinnati. He had slipped at the edge of the neighbor's pool in a puddle of water and cracked his head on the concrete before being pulled under to the bottom of the deep end. He floated up unconcious and not breathing. I got there as the neighbor was holding him half in, half out of the water, hitting his back trying to get him to spit up the water so he could breathe. He was a bluish gray as I took over and she called 911. When he was able to breathe again we realized he had severely slurred speech, looked like he'd had a stroke on the left side of his face, was blind, couldn't move any part of his body, was disoriented, and kept trying to slip back into unconsiousness. As I sat in the squad car my mind was racing between praying and flat out begging God to spare my child. I was shaking uncontrollably and breathing so hard I was light headed and ready to pass out. Oddly enough I could not cry. I asked God to calm me down so I could be strong for my son. As I was praying I realized there was music in the background. I was shocked to hear Jeremy Camp's "Let It Fade" playing on the radio. Jeremy is one of my all time favorite artists and I knew then that God knew what I needed before I ever even started praying. What are the odds that a local sheriff would show up with Air 1 radio station playing one of my favorite songs? Come to find out later, he is a youth leader at a local church and that Jeremy Camp is one of his favorite artists! He only listens to Air 1 in his squad car. Hearing the music and listening to the words made me realize that it was all in His hands and that our lives would never be the same again, but we would be okay. I immediately stopped shaking and could breath normally again. At the firehouse I asked if I could ride with my son and the pilot was so shocked at how calm I was that he actually agreed! They were calling from the helicopter to prep a surgical room. Within an hour and a half of the accident his face went back to normal and he could speak clearly, then he could move again a few hours later. By eight hours he had his eyesight back completely and they cancelled the surgery! The doctors were completely mystified by his turn around. I wasn't. It was the power of prayer. With all the technology at hand he was put on prayer lists across the country and the world within an hour of his accident. For those who don't believe in the power of prayer, my son is a testament to it. The doctors stood there in awe as he left the hospital unassisted. He needed no rehabilitation! He still suffers severe migraines, short term memory loss and has balance issues. School is very hard now. His personality has changed completely because of all he's not allowed to do. He'll never be the boy he was. He was just released 3 weeks ago to go to a basketball camp that he is attending as I write. He will never play football, soccer, and possibly baseball again. He still can't skateboard, rollerblade, ride amusement park rides, ect. He was very active before the accident and to be told you can't do what you love and suffer daily migraines...I guess I'd be a pain, too! LOL! They call him 'Miracle Boy" at Children's...I can't wait to see what God has in store for him! To be given life twice..there are no words. I would just like to thank Jeremy (and Air 1) for helping me get through the worst moments of my life. I can't hear that song now without getting the chills running down my spine and thinking about how lucky my family is to still have our son with us today. Thank you Jeremy and God bless you!
