View Full Version : Let's Stand Up!!

What do you guys think about my topic?

I think we should all stand up to blasphemy. We hear it so many times in movies, tv shows, in our jobs, basically everywhere. I think its time to change that. All of us Christians ( and Jews, Mormons, Muslims, Catholics, and any other religion that believes in God) can make a BIG impact on movies and tv shows by not going to the movies to watch blasphemy and by not watching tv shows that have blasphemy. If all of US do this then we will hurt the media where it hurts them most - their pocket! And they will start taking the blasphemy out of the movies and tv shows.

But we cannot have an attitude that says "I'm just one person doing this, it's not going to make a difference with just me" If we think like that then we will NOT make a difference. Could you imagine if at this very point 1 million of us who believe in God are thinking the same thing, are thinking "I'm just one person I can't make a difference" 1 million of Us!? If we would just have a positive attitude and say "I can make a difference" The media will see all of Us get up and Stand Up, and they will take out blasphemy. We have to stop paying them for blasphemy.

And you know what really gets me upset? That if the media makes fun of the other religions and they use what they believe as a curse or anything, that almost every single person there would stand up and go against it and the media will have to clean it up. That's why you don't hear any other religion out their being blasphemed. But then they go to Us and say Jesus, Christ, God and blaspheme Him, and what do we do? We do nothing. We have to stand up, we can do it!
All of us who believe In God, and in Jesus, or believe that Jesus is a great prophet from God, then we should be offended when they use God and/or Jesus as a blaspheme in films and in tv shows. We should not watch it.

We wouldn't watch a movie or tv show if they blasphemed our mom, or dad, or someone we really love and care about. So lets stand up to this, and tell the media No More, we refuse to watch anything that blasphemes God or Jesus. Then the media will clean up their movies/ tv shows.

Blasphemy Definition: "Expressing disrespect for God or for something sacred"

Will You Make A Stand, And Not Watch Movies Or TV Shows That Have Blasphemy?

YES!
Sadly, No
I Want To, I Just Don't Know How.

This is how, this is what I do.

If I am watching a movie and I don't know the movie has blasphemy, and in the middle of the movie they use blasphemy, I just walk away or shut it off. I also check if the movie has blasphemy ( I check online ) if it does, then I simply wont watch it.

If I am watching a TV Show and I don't know they use blasphemy, and in the middle of the show they use it, I stand up, and either shut it off or change the channel, or leave the room. Also, check this out; If you're watching a tv show and they use blasphemy then shut it off or change the channel, then the media will start seeing that all of a sudden right when they used blasphemy that people started to not watch the show anymore. Now, I'm not saying to never watch the show again, but do this. I'm going to use "Drake And Josh" for example. Watch every episode of Drake and Josh, watch it freely. But right when they use blasphemy in an episode, change it, or shut it off. Then the media will realize that a lot of people saw episodes of Drake and Josh when they didn't blaspheme. But right in an episode where they blasphemed, people started to shut off or change the channel, and fewer people started to watch the show. Then they will clean it up.

But We have to be willing that even if were watching a show and it is a very "juicy" episode and they blaspheme that we will still change the channel or shut if off. Because nothing is more insulting then insulting God, and that is exactly what they are doing( movies, tv shows, etc ). So if we want this to stop, if we want tv shows and movies to stop insulting our Father in heaven, then we have to Stand Up!

Lets Stand Up!

I understand what you are saying and I agree, but chose to go a step further. I'm not saying you all should do what I do, but this is what I'm comfortable with.... I don't watch any tv, (except maybe football in the fall or the Olympic Gymnastics). I quit 23 years ago. Why? Not all shows are bad, right? But how do you know what is bad until you've already seen it? Then it's in your head and you start getting desensitized to the muck. Also, the majority of commercials are rot. (I imagine they are even worse now!) I just don't want to waste my time with them. So, if you REALLY want to make a statement, turn off the tube and find something else to do.

As far as movies, we chose them very, very carefully. And then we have to deal with pre-views for other movies that are disgusting. It's frustrating. But honestly, I don't watch more than 5 hours a year of movies. I just don't wish to waste my time unless I'm pretty sure that there is some really good content. My opinion.

I just want to share a few Scriptures with you:

John 1:1-5, 14

1In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

2The same was in the beginning with God.

3All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

4In him was life; and the life was the light of men.

5And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.

14And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

Revelation 1:7-8

7Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen.

8I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.

I know what you're saying. But sometimes people want to watch tv. Now, some tv shows are bad, but that doesn't mean I want to stay away from ALL tv shows, and I bet others won't want to do that either. Also, if I would tell people to never watch tv and to turn it off and everything, then people would just think I'm a crazy Christian. Not that I care what people think - because I don't. But I am saying people are going to think I am crazy and that might be to the extreme to not watch tv at all you know?

I am not saying that what you're doing is wrong or anything, but I understand what you mean. You just don't want to waste your valuable time on tv, right? And that's fine, cuz sometimes people need a braek from tv you know?

Yeah, I'm not saying that everyone should do that at all. Just that I chose not to. No one told me not to, or advised me that way. I just don't want to. But you are so right. Something has to be done about the content. I stand with you on that for sure. Some of the things I've heard from others who watch it...it's appalling. And to think that stuff is going into the minds of so many children! I think what you are suggesting is awesome.

I agree with you Laura. Since I have been reading and studying the Bible, I have noticed how my interests are changing. Things that I wouldn't have even taken an offense to before, really make me feel uncomfortable now. It's amazing how the Lord has really changed me! My husband has told me that I am a different person from before (for the better), all because of the Lord. And now that my husband has started to read and study the Bible, I can see the change in him. Praise God, and I challenge everyone to read their Bibles daily and see how the Holy Spirit changes your thoughts and how He guides your actions.:D

I'm the same way! I'm a completely different person now than I was just a year ago! And I've noticed that things I see on TV or hear from friends that I blew over before, often make me feel uncomfortable. Red Letter Rock Fest was a blessed experience...not just for the show, but for the conversations that my friend and I had. We argued a lot on that trip, but it was nice to just be able to voice opinions when before we would just listen to what each other said and blow over it. And it didn't hurt our friendship at all....in fact, in a way, it's actually stronger now. It really is time to start speaking louder than before! ;)

Yes, great challenge! It's such a blessing to see people's lives changing as they submit more and more to Jesus. If we are totally open to His Word and don't have preconceived ideas or stubborn resistance, we can really learn to surrender our wills to Him as we read the Bible. It is always a blessing, for sure. It's a daily commitment. Sometimes hourly. :)

I think that working through differences actually does strengthen relationships. Being real with each other, even in differences, can be like glue between people if it's done with respect and love.

Yes, we need to SLTB!!! Love it.
