This may be a little late because I realize many churches had their VBS already but I just thought we could have a thread for those of us who are volunteering at VBS. I volunteered through Kids Club to work their church's VBS and I had NO idea what I was getting myself into hehe....
687 kids enrolled!!!! I think at my old church, the biggest we ever got was 150-200! So it was definitely an eye-opener. I'm working the arts & crafts room for grades 3-5. We have 4 groups of about 70 kids, so it's nice and jam-packed in there! But luckily we have about 6 of us leading the arts & crafts so it's not too bad. Today was our first day. We talked about the story of the ten lepers. We did several experiments. One was taking dry ice and filling a balloon, then sticking it into a tub with water and more dry ice and watching it expand to represent Jesus' heart expanding. Another thing we did was draw ten people on a cloth with permanent marker to represent the ten lepers, then with a red washable marker we drew spots on them, then used Oxy Clean to represent Jesus, and we'd rinse the cloth and the spots would disappear, showing how Jesus healed the lepers. And then we had an actual cow's heart and pig's heart for the kids to touch! *quiver* hehe
Tomorrow we're telling the story of the blind man and they're making "lightbulb men" so I volunteered to lead that one since I figured I had a pretty good angle with my disability....so pray that I find the words to share with them!
