View Full Version : Hurricane heads toward Texas

Hurricane Dolly is expected to hit here in Texas sometime later this week. They're saying that it's only going to be a Cat 1 when it makes landfall, but you just never know, so we need to pray for everyone on the coastline of Texas and Mexico this week!

They're saying it should hit near Brownsville, so it should steer clear of you :) We'll probably just see some big storms at most

Dolly is expected to hit the coast around 5pm tomorrow. They are now concerned that the levees on the Rio Grande could break and cause massive flooding. Many, many prayers going out to the families and everyone in the area rushing to evacuate, and especially for those who decided to stay home and ride out the storm. Here's the latest article:

Well it sure didn't take long, but Dolly's already here! There are some storms brewing as we speak! The clouds look INSANE! I got a few pics, but my battery is dying and we have too many trees here....I'll upload what I got in a bit.
Kelly
07-22-2008, 10:59 PM
Here are a couple pics....they don't do the clouds justice though...they went on for MILES! There were just too many trees and things in the way, so I had to take several pics...

Dolly is now a Cat 2 with winds up to 100mph! Lots of damage has already been done (signs fallen down, roof of an apartment building collapsed, electricity has gone out). Luckily there have been no reported injuries. The center should make landfall sometime this afternoon. Still praying that the levees hold up! That's the biggest concern with this storm.
krazyyouth
07-23-2008, 01:33 PM
yeah im so glad i dont live by were the strom is at and whats also godd but bad no rain.. hopfully we dont hve thoese leaves break
Kelly
07-23-2008, 06:42 PM
It's been downgraded to Cat 1, but there is still a HUGE potential for flooding and possibility that the levees could break. They said the Rio Grande would start to rise Friday sometime, so we're not out of the woods yet.
krazyyouth
07-24-2008, 02:17 PM
yeah but one good thing is that i dont have to worry i live so far from there but yes it is bad about thoes leaves

Boy we are really feeling the after effects of Dolly and it's INSANE!!!! It's been raining nonstop all day!!!! And HARD too!!! I'm literally flooded out of my room....I'd have to wheel through a river to get out there. Oh well....looks like I'm shackin' up in the house tonight :p

Praying right now for all of you down that way.
Kelly
09-01-2008, 09:36 AM
It's been downgraded to a 2! Praise God! However, they're saying that it's borderline 3, so pray that it breaks up as it hits land instead!
I just checked the weather channel and there are FOUR storm systems in the atlantic! Hanna is a tropical storm and they're saying at least one more of them could become a tropical storm by the end of the day. :(
krazyyouth
09-01-2008, 11:57 AM
yehhh it was not as bad i dont think those leaves broke
ktbug23
09-03-2008, 09:57 AM
yeah, there are 2 other systems in the Atlantic besides Hanna, which is slated to make landfall somewhere along the East coast. Ike and Josephine are still tropical storms, but could become Hurricanes pretty soon. I kind of looks like Ike might make a trek toward the Gulf of Mexico. I wish it wouldn't, but it probably will. I've also heard that this one might be more of a newsmaker than Gustav was. Josephine might become what they call a "fish storm" that'll recurve into the ocean and not impact land, but I'm not sure.
Geez louise....
Kelly
09-09-2008, 12:32 AM
Well it looks like Ike is heading straight for us now! :( Just this morning the projected path had it heading more north towards LA, but it has changed since and now they have it curving down towards us! Definitely gonna be watching this one! Praying for all of you in the Houston/Galveston area!

09-09-2008, 04:12 PM

All of you down there in the path of these storms; we in the north are praying for you! Be safe.
Kelly
09-10-2008, 10:03 AM
Projected path covers the ENTIRE state of Texas! Wow! Looks like there's no escaping this thing! I'll be fine though....by the time it gets to me, it'll be just another strong thunderstorm with a lot of wind. They're saying the eye will hit more south, so everyone in the Houston/Galveston area should be ok :)

It's speeding up for sure! The Saturday line used to be in the Gulf, but now it's on land! They're saying we'll get 40-60mph winds and heavy rains! Hopefully no tornados or serious weather like that! Praying for everyone else here in TX!!!

I'm "up"ing my prayers bigtime!!! I have heard from several friends and family in Houston this morning that they have a mandatory evac now, and I know we have a lot of people here from that area. Praying that everyone gets away to somewhere safe! The only thing I have to worry about really is going to work on Saturday with "torrential rain and 40-60mph wind gusts". I'm hoping and praying my boss calls me and tells me not to go in. Would not be safe being on the road or alone in that kinda weather! Although at a storage place, I do have nice shelter if tornados were to hit!
krazyyouth
09-11-2008, 12:06 PM
yeah i want to get out of here away from this storm and it isbad down here we have te calm before the storm
Kelly
09-11-2008, 01:06 PM
We do too actually! It's a GORGEOUS day here! But that's all going to change by tomorrow night! They're saying we might actually not get much rain (1 to 2 inches max) but winds will be REALLY bad....they're saying now that they could get up to 80mph!!! The storm is just growing and growing in size instead of strength....last I checked it was about 300 miles wide!
Kelly
09-11-2008, 01:12 PM
Just got KLove's Verse of the Day and it's perfect!
The Lord is my light and my salvation—so why should I be afraid? The Lord is my fortress, protecting me from danger, so why should I tremble?
Let's not forget that God is with us all today! He is our rock and our shield, protecting us from mother nature and from terrorists! Praise God! :)

Kelly thats still bad enough and I will be praying for you also! If it strengthens to a strong CAT 3 overnight and tomorow, up here in Willis we can expect 110 sustained winds with gust to 125. If it stays as is we will have CAT 1 winds. The storm right now has a diffuse eye and is sucking in some cooler drier air and let us pray that this is a trend that continues!
krazyyouth
09-11-2008, 07:49 PM
oh yeah i hope it dose not become a cat 3 and i think we are going to go to a motel and ride it out and if thw power goes out once the strom passes we well leave and thank you we might go to west texas because this storm cant make up its mind were it wants to go and all and all we can do is pray and hope that it stays a cat 2 and it wont be deadly as of the other ones that was suppose to hit us and it didnt or it went south
Kelly
09-11-2008, 08:02 PM
"Hurricane-force winds extend 115 miles from the center while tropical storm-force winds extend an astounding 275 miles from the center"
This thing is seriously MASSIVE! If it does reach strong Cat 3, I just can't even imagine the destruction it will cause! Guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens overnight. I have to work an extra 2 hours tomorrow cause the kids get out of school early and will come straight to us. Gonna be one CRAZY day!

Just watched the local news and they've downgraded our wind gusts to only 25-45mph! Wow. This thing literally changes every minute! I guess there really is no telling what will happen until it makes landfall. They did make one chilling statement though: If you are in a one or two story building on Galveston Island, you WILL face certain death! :( Praying that everyone has evacuated the area!

Please please pray for southeast texas right now. From here on out conditions will be worsening all over southeast Texas and everyone is just waiting for it to be over. It wont be until late tomorow that this storm will be out of the way. Where I live we are expecting hurricane condtions for 12 hours or more and tropical storm conditions well into the night tomorow night. I live 100 miles inland and we are starting to really see the winds pick up, especially in the last hour! At some point later in the evening I will not be able to update anymore and probably will not be on the boards for quit a while.....Warren

Starting to look like rain here. We'll see what happens. We seem to live in a bubble here. I remember when I lived in San Antonio (30 minutes away from here), it would be storming there and I would call my parents here and they'd say they had great weather. One night it was raining and hailing sideways! I called mom and asked how the weather was here and she said "It's nice." I was like "Are you kidding? It's hailing sideways here!" She said "Really? Nothin' but sunshine here!" Strange!

Cara, I can't believe it was still that bad when it hit you....I didn't even think it would go that far north....they had it veering WAY east after running all the way up Texas. Shows you just how big one little shift can turn out to be! When it made landfall it veered slightly to the right...if it'd gone straight it would've hit us! Crazy!

Hey everybody I am back! I am on generator power and phone service just returened this morning. Boy did we have a blow and the sound of that wind roaring and the tree's popping is a very humbling expieriance. I have heard it before but it always has the same effect. We got popped hard by the hurricane but not as hard as 40 miles further south in Houston where I work. It is going to take a while to rebuild my business and it is discouraging but somehow I cant help but think that this is a new oppertunity for a different future....

I am glad everyone is ok! I hope you get your power back soon. Sorry to hear about your business. Just remember, Everything happens for a reason and God has a plan!! If there is anything that we can do please let us know! God Bless you brother!

I am so sorry that your church was damaged. The old church building that my church sold to another congregation 3 years ago was damaged during IKE but they have a wonderful attitude and they will be up and running in no time. I am glad ya'll have a place to meet though and that is awsome! Our pastors house was destroyed by one large red oak, it cut the house completly in-half diagonally =( the scary part was that he, his wife and daughter where in it when it happened but they are OK...

It's so good to "hear" from you, and to know you are ok! I'll pray that your church is repaired soon.
Warren, wow. That must have been quite terrifying for your pastor and his family! Praise God that they are safe.
Have we heard from everyone in TX? Lana, you weren't in that area, were you?

Lana's fine....she lives way farther west than me. Talked to her a couple days ago and she had several people in the Houston area. She'd heard from all but two. Hopefully she's gotten in contact with those two by now!
Kaylee posted on the boards a couple days ago so I'm assuming she's alright :p And Sandy lives near me so no problems there....think that's everyone....
