WARNING: PLAY NICE!!!! NO FIGHTING!!!!

Ok so sadly, sports are labelled a "guy" thing, but we know that women can get into sports just as much as men, so I thought we could use a sports thread for those ladies

My major sport is football...I could watch any team in football...I just love the game! But here are some of my favorite teams:

College: LONGHORNS!!!! (if we have some Aggies in here, we're gonna have some big problems hehehe....remember....no fighting!!! ;))

NFL: PACKERS!!!!! (I MISS BRETT FAVRE!!!!! :(), Cowboys, Colts, Steelers.....
And I have a friend, Kliff Kingsbury, who was in the NFL for a few years....but he got moved around a lot and didn't get any actual play time until 2005 when he was on the Jets. Unfortunately, he was sent to the CFL where he played for the Montreal Allouettes and Winnepeg Blue Bombers, and he's now a free agent for the CFL....so I don't know what's gonna happen from here, but I wish him all the best and I hope he gets to play soon!

I'm not a HUGE fan of any other sports, but I NEVER miss a Spurs game or an Astros game!! In fact, I just recently found out that I work with Lance Berkman's mother (she's such an awesome lady!)...and Lance even helped design and install the playground we use at Kids Club! :D

And my dad and his band just recently sang the national anthem at a Spurs game....SO awesome! You can see the video here:

http://youtube.com/watch?v=kVDK7ROtYU0 My dad's the one on our left.

Spurs are now 2-3 in the series so we HAVE to win our last two games!!!!

And Astros need to win tonight, just because!

Any other sports fans here???

Kelly, I am so glad you started this thread!!! Sports have been my life from the moment I could walk. I play them all but my favorite is basketball. I got the privalege to play in college. Basketball is my identity. As for my favorite teams...

College: Of course Ohio State since I'm from Ohio! O-H-I-O!!!!

MLB: I am an Atlanta Braves girl. Sorry Cleveland fans. I love going to Braves games.

NBA: I will stick to Ohio teams here. Clevland Caviliers!

NFL: Sorry Brown fans, but I love the 49ers. Even though they haven't had the greatest of teams here lately, I am a dedicated fan.

That pretty much sums up the sport teams that I watch and keep up on.

One sporty girl,
Kirstin

Other than the Packers, I love gymnastics and used to be in them as a middle and high school girl. Many moons ago. I do not bend in half like I used to. Ouch.

If you come visit me this fall, we could go to a game! I have some friends who buy season tickets and she always tells me that if I want to go, I can let her know. I've lived here ALL my life, and I've never been to a game yet. So...do I try to remedy that, or try not to break my record? LOL.;)

Kelly

Man I would LOOOOOOOVE to come to the season opener because they're retiring Brett's jersey that night, but I don't have the money for a trip like that :(

As far as watching sports goes, I'm a big fan of KU men's basketball (hence the username...lol), Braves baseball (thanks to years of national coverage on TBS)...and that's pretty much it. I'll check up on some KU guys in the NBA from time to time, but I have a hard time getting into NBA games.

Amy T.
05-28-2008, 10:23 PM
yeah, I don't get to follow my teams as much as I used too. I still lovem though. I will somewhat follow former UK players in the NBa. They have quite a few. I will cheer for the spurs for you too, since I don't have a favorite. Good luck

They have about quit showing the Braves on TBS. What's up with that?

They've been cutting down on games for the past couple of years, but this is the first season they're not showing them at all. Well, not regularly, anyway. :( TBS decided to do Sunday games only (varying teams) and they also get some playoff games.

Needless to say, I was really disappointed about this. Boo TBS!

Speaking of the Braves, did you ladies know that Matt Diaz's younger brother is an independent Christian musician? He got a chance to open up for Mercy Me at one of the faith night concerts at Turner Field. (Obviously I wasn't there, I just saw an article about it.) :)

Anyway, Jonny has a great voice!

NBA - I don't really have any favorites anymore. I root for the Spurs though.

okay I have a confession. I'm kind of a sissy girl. I was in gymnastics, figure skating, and dance for a while, although i did play soccer for almost just as long.

heres the real confession though and you'll probably laugh at me, because people tend to to that, but I really get sports mixed up--mostly just baseball and football though.. I don't know which one is which. I'm getting better though...

Laura-yeah! Gymnasts Unite! I was a gymnast through high school!
(Swimmer/Diver too)

NFL-I'm a cowboys fan! (although gotta say, I love the Pack too, or maybe just brett- gonna miss him! )

Baseball- Rangers (if we could ever get some pitching and then put it all together!)

Like tennis, not a huge basketball fan, GO DALLAS STARS!

I like lots of sports. Horseback riding is my favorite, I also do rafting or rock climbing when I have the rare chance.

Team sports, I keep an eye on the Reds in baseball and Xavier in college BB (I'm from Cincy, of course). The Bengals need to clean up their act, but I was a fan in the Ken Anderson era.

Wide World of Sports was my all-time favorite sports show growing up - R.I.P Jim McKay :( I watch horse racing, on Youtube if necessary. I'll watch almost anything.

I LOVE sports! After I get the kids off to school every morning I sit down with a cup of coffee and watch sports center! I played 6 years of little league and cheered a couple of years in grade school, basketball, volleyball and track in middle school, volleyball and tennis in high school, and velodrome short track racing (bicycling) in college. I love to play football and ice hockey for fun, too! I've had to cut back on the football in the yard with the kids this summer, I've gotten a broken thumb, pinky and a dislocated shoulder the past three summers. The neighborhood kids aren't so little anymore! LOL!!

NFL-Denver Broncos
MLB-Chicago Cubs
NHL-Detroit Redwings...Stanley Cup, baby!!!
NBA-Indianapolis Pacers

A "sissy" girl? Gymnastics/cheerleading/dancing are not for sissies! My daughter does all three and has had more injuries (and the injuries were also more severe) than my son who plays quarterback (that's football;))! You are NOT a sissy!:D

.....ok ummmmmm......

So I just saw a report on the news that there is about a 90% chance that Brett will be back! Now they're just talking about whether or not he'll play for the Packers (they still have him on the reserve/retired list). I just don't know what to make of all this. I mean I know there's going to be speculation, but I've heard from SEVERAL sources that he's "itching to come back", and would most likely be traded to another team. He can't! He just can't!

Laura, what are you hearing about all this??? Training camp starts on the 27th so I guess we'll be hearing something shortly.

I'm excited for the Olympics. I prefer the summer events to the winter ones, by far. I've been pricing new TVs -- mine is ancient, but it was given to me by some friends who didn't want it anymore. I'd love to have a shiny new TV for the Olympics! :)

I am so sick and tired of hearing about Brett!! He needs to go back to Mississippi and enjoy his retirement. As I heard on the news tonight, the team has moved on....he needs to also.

I guess he has 24 hours to show up. And he has reprtedly sent in the papers to be reinstated. I don't think he will. I think this is just all for attention. He must think he will be forgotten. I'm sure he won't, but come on man....

I don't think its right that he would start. I mean its everything that the new quarterback has worked for. He (the new guy) deserves it. But at least they are making Brett compete for it. That is the only fair part of it. I still hope the new guy kicks his behind though. lol :p

Kelly
08-05-2008, 01:36 AM
But since you challenged me.....hehe......

To be honest, I'm back and forth on the whole subject, but here are the Cliff's notes:

- I'm upset that he would put me and the other millions of fans through what he did when he retired and then come back like this....I literally cried for days when he retired! Not ashamed to admit that! I have every single Sports Illustrated Issue dedicated to the "retirement" and now I look at them like "What do I do with these?" They meant SO much, but now they're basically worthless.

- I'm upset with the Packers organization for the way they've treated him in this ordeal. Offering a legend and future HOF $20m to stay off the field instead of giving him another chance to play for you??? Please! And the fact that they even consider trading him an option? They offered him $20m to stay off the field, why? So that they could guarantee that he wouldn't go to a rival team. And why would that scare them? Because they KNOW he's awesome. If you're so scared to lose a guy because he might beat you on another team, then why would you not want that guy to play for you???

- I'm absolutely relieved that he did not accept the $20m to stay in retirement. That's NOT Brett Favre! Not that I know him personally, but in his 17 year career he always prided himself on being someone who was never about the money. He loved to play football...that's what it was always about, and it always showed! And that's why he decided to come back. He didn't come back to create all this madness. In fact, he had told Coach all along that he was having second thoughts! He came back because he still wants to play football! To see him even CONSIDER accepting that offer was painful!

- I do NOT want to see him traded to another team! Brett Favre IS the face of the Packers! That's just how it is and how it's been for the past 16 years. He said he'd never play for another team and I hope I never have to see that happen. But would I watch him if that were to happen? Of course, because I LOVE to watch him play!

- Do I wish he had stayed retired and gone out on a high note like he did? Sure.

- Do I feel bad for Aaron Rodgers? Definitely! I look forward to seeing him play.

- Would I like to see Brett back in the green and gold uniform on the field this year? ABSOLUTELY!!!!

Basically, all it boils down to is that what has happened the past several months is now in the past....we need to stop focusing on all the reasoning behind his return and look to the future with the possibility of Brett Favre starting again. At this moment he is officially a Packer and no matter what I look forward to seeing Brett play again because NO ONE plays the game with as much passion as he does! :D The Packers should be thanking their lucky stars that he wanted to come back! :)

Kelly
08-05-2008, 02:10 AM
I know one thing for sure...if the Packers decide to release him, they are officially insane because he would most likely go straight to the Vikings *shiver* And Brett and the Vikings would face Aaron and the Packers at the season opener....definitely not a smart move for MM and TT as they are "lovingly" referred to.

Wheels4Jesus
08-06-2008, 07:57 AM
Brett going to the Vickings (or any other team) would sure be a slap in the face to the Packers. I don't think he should do that either. From the news reports and the interviews from the Packer players and the Packer fans, they have lost a lot of respect for Brett, and are very hurt. I expected that.

He should have just taken the high road and retired like he did and then stay out.

Well the verdict is in, and the Pack looks REALLY promising for this season :) We lost tonight but Aaron did a great job. Couple sacks we could've done without and the interception which wasn't his fault. But made some great plays! I'm worried about the backup QBs though! They scare me!

i didn't watch most of it..cause the weekend was so busy w/ a wedding and stuff...I did watch some of the motocross stuff...and the rally car racing...was happy that Pastrana won that. (have you ever seen the video of Jason Dunn's girlfriend Lenay riding with him...and there was hearts and bunnies on the note pad?)

Ya I think I have. I watched Hard Knocks (Cowboys Yay!) with my sister, it was funny.

WOOHOO!!!! It's here!!! It's finally here!!!!! After the LONGEST preseason in the history of football, the first NFL Sunday is here! :) On my menu today:

12-3 Jets vs Dolphins.....ouch! Old Jets QB vs new Jets QB!!! :( Should be a good game! Unfortunately, they're not showing it here!!!! :( So I'll be listening online....GO BRETT! GO JETS!

3-6 Cowboys vs Browns - GO COWBOYS!!!!!!

7-10 Bears vs Colts - GO COLTS!!!!!!

Who are yall watching/rooting for?

I'm sort of watching New Orleans vs Tampa Bay, but not really paying a lot of attention. My husband and I will be watching the Cowboys in awhile though I tend to get distracted with other things. I used to keep up much better, but I have so much else to keep up with that it's not so easy.

JETS WON!!!!! GO BRETT!!! Right at the beginning of the game he made an INCREDIBLE play! Play action fake, then a gunslinger across the field to Cotchery who ran it in for the TD! :)

Then their kicker got hurt and missed the EP on a touchdown as well as a field goal. Then Packers ended up 4th and 14 at one point and had no choice but to go for it since they had no kicker to punt or make a field goal! And in true Brett Favre fashion....not only did they get a first down on that play...they got a TOUCHDOWN!!! :) Then at the end of the game, the Dolphins were within 6 pts so all they had to do was score and get the EP. They made it to the 18 yd line with 13 seconds to go in the game, but then WE INTERCEPTED AND WON!!!! :D

I love this game!!!!

Watching the Cowboys now :)

This has been one INSANE day in football!!!! My Packers obliterated the Lions!!! The game was like a rollercoaster though! We were up 21-0 just minutes into the game! Then somehow the Lions crawled back to make it up by a point 25-24....but then.....

We intercepted THREE....that's right THREE times in a row, ALL TOUCHDOWNS!!!!! :) Final score: 48-25 PACKERS! :)

The Jets were a different story unfortunately. Lost 19-10 :( But at the end of the game, they cut to the Broncos game and the few minutes that I saw were more than enough! Broncos were down 31-38. Fourth and goal with seconds to go. They could either score and tie the game with an extra kick, or miss and the game was over and they lose. They scored, but....they went for two instead of the kick, got it, and WON! :)

I loved the Packers game yesterday(even though I slept through most of it)...it was an amazing game. all 3 of my favorite teams won yesterday...Packers, Giants and Colts(P & G w/ huge differences, Colts only by 3). and now the packers are on top on the standings.
