haha...really it is over 100 bands long. I live in a city that a christian music festival is held in that is for 5 days(well kinda 4) and I have gone to it every year(10th year was this year), so that plus another one(festival) plus concerts here and there throughout the year(mostly of local bands) it has gotten to be pretty big. i really don't feel like writing them out...

I really want to see Kutless in October. I'd like to see tMac and B429 but Kutless is gonna be a little closer. I'm going to try to convince one of my friends to go with me. I hope I can go.

Yeah, I'm considering going to the Creation Tour. I don't know if I will since the closest date is two hours away in Chattanooga.

I saw The Becoming at the Tooth & Nail showcase during GMA Week. They put on a good show. The lead singer (I think his name is Caleb) broke one of the venue's mic stands, so he got in trouble after their set. It was kind of funny. I'm planning on bringing the friend that went to the Tooth & Nail showcase with me to their Nashville CD release party. Should be sweet!

Well, Deas Vail was great. Jon Foreman was AMAZING! I love that man's solo stuff way more than anything he's ever done with Switchfoot.

Now those Jackson Waters shows just need to hurry up and happen. I wish I could go to more of their shows. They have 2 set for Nashville and 2 set for Franklin. But the Franklin shows are unfortunately 21 and up. So lame... It's not like I want to drink anyway. I think I'll ask JW if I can hide under their merch table when they roll it in. haha Or maybe if I sell their merch again, the venue will make an exception. Doubt it. But I really want to go. :)

I've never seen him live, but I do agree about his solo stuff! I listened to a song or two and was psyched about the direction. I can't stop listening to "Somebody's Baby."

I haven't seen JW in a while. The last time was before Come Undone came out. Seems like they don't hit my area very often.

It's kind of hard to get a chance to see Jon Foreman outside of when he's with Switchfoot. He's done some touring by himself, but it was only in CA, so it's kind of hard for all of us who don't live there to see him. I was SO excited when I saw that he was coming to Nashville, especially when I was told tickets were only going to be $7. I'm still kind of amazed that a small school like Trevecca Nazarene was able to book him. But the show was crazy good. He had his sister-in-law, who sings on some of the songs on the EPs, come out to sing on "The House of God Forever". And Ethan Luck, who you might know from the OC Supertones, Demon Hunter, or Relient K, came out played on a couple songs too.

I wish I had seen JW back in the day. They played at my school my freshman year and I didn't go. I regret that now. I hadn't seen them until this year's GMA Week. They played twice during the week that I saw them. And then I just saw them again over the summer in Greenville, SC. Now I just wish the two shows they're playing in Nashville in a couple weeks weren't going to be showcases because I want to hear them play more than 3 songs.

They're playing in Manhattan, Kansas, at a festival on the 19th. I don't know how far that is from you.

JC#1Nashvillefan

what kind of showcases Amanda

AmandaT
09-07-2008, 10:32 AM
what kind of showcases Amanda

Well, the two Nashville shows JW is playing are on the 29th. The first one is going to be at like 7 or 8 at Exit/In. I forget the name of the show, but it's supposed to be multiple artists playing. Then JW is pretty much immediately driving over to Mercy Lounge to play for BMI's 8 off 8th event, which allows each artist to play only 3 songs. Understandable since 8 artists playing full sets would take FOREVER. Especially in Nashville where everyone likes to assume that their music is "totally epic". haha

They are getting full sets later on in Franklin, but I won't be able to go to those since they are at a bar that won't allow anyone under 21 in. Lame... I was thinking about asking David Leonard if I could sneak in under the merch table. haha

I'm pretty excited because I just saw that The Becoming and Deas Vail are playing Next Big Nashville on Thursday. Now I just need someone to go with me... And I need to figure out where exactly Deas Vail is playing since the directions just say 12th Ave. Not too helpful. 12th is a pretty long street...

And I saw that the Mean Tambourines are playing at a local indie CD store, so I might go to that. The Mean Tambourines is the band that Ryan (J's guitar player before 2004) is now the lead singer of. I saw them open for Relient K earlier this year, but haven't had a chance to see them again due to either being out of town or their shows being in 21+ venues.

I'm sure that once their album drops Tooth & Nail will hook them up with a good tour. T&N is so good about putting its new bands on tours with its more established acts.

Like I just saw that Children 18:3 is going on tour with Norma Jean. Should be a CRAZY show. I don't go to many hardcore shows. Mostly to avoid the bruising, but I will not miss this tour. I'm going to stand up front for Children 18:3 and then retreat to the back of the venue for the rest of the bands because I really don't feel like getting windmill kicked in the face. haha

I guess I can add another show under The Becoming now. Though I did only see like 1 and 1/2 songs of their set tonight. It was so not my fault. My friend was supposed to be at my apartment at 9, but she didn't leave Franklin on time and then found out that I-65 was getting repaved, so the freeway was down from 4 lanes to 1 lane. She didn't get to my apartment until after 9:45. The Becoming went on at 9:30. We got to the venue at like 9:50. We got upstairs just in time to see them finish one song and then Caleb Owens announced that they were going to play their last song. LAME...

And then while we were standing around after The Becoming's set this random guy came up to us and was like "HEY! Are you guys ready to rock?" lol I think he'd been drinking a little bit. He introduced himself as Matt and asked if my friend and I were from Nashville. He then revealed that his band was playing next and that they were from Minneapolis. My friend and I decided to stay just because the kid entertained us enough. (I say kid, but he must be like 22 considering he was drinking a beer.) The band actually sounded really good. They had crazy good energy and stage presence. I would give their name, but I don't think I should since they kind of drop the F bomb in a few of their songs and I don't want kids looking them up.

I guess it was overall a good night, though I wish I had actually seen The Becoming's set. I guess there's always the CD release show... I already told my friend that I will have no problem ditching her if she's late for that.

haha....wow...i know a few bands from Minneapolis...but the ones that I know more wouldn't have been drinking(one of them one of the guys could get kicked out of the college he goes to...oh wait he might have graduated...for drinking). idk...haha. yeah...they are like one of the only 2 bands that seem to comment me back(Kory does and so does Luke Smallbone of Joel and Luke).

Yeah, Kory is pretty great about getting back to people. It kind of weirded me out the first couple times he messaged me because he'd call me "hun". But then I figured out he's just one of those guys that calls every girl that.

They're probably not a band you would've heard. They're all pretty young. 4 of the 5 members are between the ages of 18 and 20. And then Matt, the only one that was drinking, is like 21 or 22. He was rather cute. And I don't mean in the "OMG! He's hot!" way (I don't say that ever), but in that you could tell how much he loved what he was doing because he had the biggest grin on his face the whole time his band was playing. They were really great, especially for how young they are, except for their use of the F bomb.

I would like to feed Caleb a few cheeseburgers. The man looks like he never eats. He's probably like 6'3" and I bet he doesn't even weigh 150 pounds.

This pic was from last night. They were on the SESAC stage.

How did the macadamia nut subject come up? haha

I haven't talked to any of them in person yet. I think Justin graduated from my college. He would've graduated before I even started here though. I read somewhere that he plays for The Becoming, Denver and the Mile High Orchestra, Plumb, and Salvador. He has a pretty impressive career already for being so young...

yeah...D&MHO is how I met him. well like I was kinda helping with putting on a show of DMHO and there was treats for the "VIPs" at the show and after I wanted some and he goes "eww i don't like macadamia nut cookies". I laughed at him. it was through him that I heard of the becoming(and they are now my 2nd favorite band after Hawk).

So I discovered that the Jackson Waters show I was planning on going to is 21 and up, thus I can't go. So lame. It's not like I'd try to get a drink anyway. I just want to see a band.

And I can't go to see Children 18:3 on Saturday because of how crazy it's going to be around my school Thursday on due to the presidential debate being here. I'm peacing out off Nashville on Friday right after class.

I guess I do still have The Becoming's CD release to look forward to this week...

Funny story for you in particular. The Becoming was doing a listening party/signing in Franklin, TN, today at Hot Topic, so I went out to say hi and buy their album so they'd get the Sound Scan credit. As my friend and I were talking to them, we started talking to Justin and I brought up the macadamia nut cookie thing. He thought that was hilarious. He felt bad though because he wondered if you made them. lol

They're super sweet guys! They kept thanking us for coming out because we were apparently the only ones who purposefully came in to buy the album in the 2 hours they'd been there. Kory started talking with some old lady sitting on a bench just to have something to do. It was kind of hilarious. I have a feeling I'm going to end up on YouTube soon because a friend of their's was video taping everything.

I have three favorites right now. "Your Love", "We Close Our Eyes", and "Somebody Didn't Come Home Last Night". That last track was amazing live. I tried to record it with my camera, but for some reason my camera has been having weird memory issues that it never had before. At the Tooth & Nail showcase during GMA Week, I took at least 300 pictures and got about 4 full song videos, but last night I didn't even take 130 pictures and it wouldn't let me take a video over 1:30 without filling up the memory. I don't know what the deal is.

Your Love and Somebody Didn't Come Home Last Night are also my favorites...along w/ I Cry. that is annoying that your camera did that. I don't really like mine cause it has NO SOUND. and only does like 230 something pics...but that is cause of the card i have.

Yeah, I'm bummed about missing Seabird too. I actually first heard about the show because of Seabird, but then discovered all of the 8 off 8th showcases at Mercy Lounge were 21+. So when I saw that was what Seabird was playing I knew I couldn't go. And then The Becoming just got added. Oh well... So goes my luck. At least it's only 8 off 8th. The bands only get 3 song sets since there are 8 bands playing.

And is the drummer you're talking about the dude from The Myriad?

^ I think Todd finds Hawk Nelson to be too boy band-ish.

So I tried to get into that show The Becoming and Seabird did. It didn't happen. I'm not sneaky. I did get to hang out with The Becoming for 30 minutes, I guess. I really wanted to Seabird though.

I've got another Jackson Waters show coming up on the 2nd. Just two weeks away... Too bad it's at a venue I don't like. The venue tends to charge double from anyone under 21. I assume it's because they know you won't buy a drink. I find it stupid since most of the people over 21 wouldn't buy drinks either. It doesn't really create a balance. And then the Copeland show is just over two weeks after that. I'm hoping some other Nashville shows will get added soon. It seems like bands I like either all play within days of each other or there's some month long gap between shows.

I love having a spokesperson! It makes my absences from the boards that much more palatable! ;)

OK. I'm one of those people who liked Relient K before they were big. Then pop punk got old... really, really quickly... It seemed like every other band was pop punk.

As for Hawk Nelson specifically... The first time I saw J over 4 years ago, they were at the show, as were a couple local people. I was in a room that was supposed to have I think 450 people? Anyway, they crammed about 650 people in there, and Fire Marshall Bill said never again. I had a sinus infection or something in my ear, and it was super hot. So I did not particularly care to listen to Hawk Nelson (I was already over pop punk by this time).

And then to be honest, it became a joke after that. It seemed that every time I went to a J show, or even a "non tour" show with some bands, Hawk Nelson was there. It's been a running joke to see if I can "avoid" Hawk Nelson at the festivals and shows. :) They're honestly great guys, I just don't dig the music.

I did see Jason sing a duet with Amy Grant at Creation, though. That was pretty weird/cool.

I think Hawk is okay, but I also think they're too boy band-ish. I feel like their music is intended for kids younger than me. If I was 13, I'd probably think they were the greatest thing ever.

Like yes...they do have girls screaming for them at every show(okay...mainly for Jason)....but like I just ignore them or just join them for the heck of it.

AmandaT

The screaming fan-girl part is probably what kills Hawk's cred in my book. I just don't want to be around that many screaming girls. It's ridiculous. If they were screaming between songs to show appreciation for the song, that's one thing, but the majority of them are screaming "I LOVE YOU!" or "YOU'RE HOT!" Those girls don't even care that some of those guys are twice their age or in relationships.

I must say that's why I like Nashville shows. They're usually 18+, so it cuts out the teen crowd. Though sometimes it is INCREDIBLY amusing to watch teens hit on guys in bands. Like I got to watch a bunch of 14 year olds hit on Ben Olin from This Beautiful Republic. The dude is turning 29 in December, but that didn't stop any of these girls from hitting on him. They were trying so hard, it was just hilarious. I did feel a little bad when Ben looked over and saw me laughing at him, but he got over it. Usually our conversations consist of making fun of each other. hah

Oh, and Todd, I forgot to tell you this earlier, but I'm taking a speech class right now and we had to do a meaningful item speech. The girl that went right before me pulled out a shoe and said that Jason from Hawk Nelson signed it. That was her most meaningful possession. I honestly struggled to keep from laughing a little. I totally thought of you as soon as I saw the signature.

It's like they want to check out the competition as if I'm in love him. haha Don't get me wrong. Love the dude as a brother in Christ. He's awesome. I respect him for the music he makes. But "in love with him"? haha NO.

haha...yeah...teenage girls get jealous pretty easily. haha...more like those girls are "in lust with him". cause really like yeah...i can't explain it.

I've seen Hawk Nelson a couple times. Can't stand 'em, for multiple reasons (most of which are the music -- just not my style).

You know, at the last J gig I went to, I heard a girl scream, "I LOVE YOU!" And, J being J, he turned it around:

"But how much do you love Jesus?"

He got a lot of applause for that.

Anyway, on to concerts: I saw Jeff Deyo recently. He was the worship leader for our Youth Convention, and I loved it. It was the first time in a long time that I could just throw myself into community worship without having to worry about the little things. You know, "How are the monitors? Am I playing too loud? Oops, wrong chord. I need to turn Singer A up juuust a tad..."

Nope; just standing back, arms raised, eyes closed, singing to God. Good times.

I'm also getting the concert itch; I just don't know who's going to be in the area soon. I've been insanely busy all summer long, and it hasn't slown down yet.

One more Jackson Waters show to add to my list! They were amazing last night. I love those guys.
They're really sounding solid as a 4 man group now.

I took 7 videos during the show. Basically that was their entire set except for 2 songs. If you want to see the videos, let me know and I'll send you some links.

My favorite pic of the night:

Psh... I can study earlier in the day. The show isn't until 8, which means I don't need to leave school until like 7 (to get a good spot).

Though I do have my toughest final (business finance) the day after...

I have a pretty huge pile of finance notes and the book isn't too compact either. There wouldn't really be a place to put them and I'd be afraid to accidentally leave them behind somewhere. That finance book was not cheap...

And in that case, put me down also for 11 MercyMe/Bebo Norman shows! :)

Well, the Josh Wilson/Brandon Heath thing didn't end up happening because I drove out to Franklin to pick a friend up from her house.

The Classic Crime was amazing though! Their set was a little short, but I think it was because Matt hurt his voice. Now if only they'd start getting booked in TN, so I could see them more than once every blue moon. One of the opening acts I caught was really good too. They were called Tyler Read.

Whoaaaaa that's a lot of concerts.. And to think I haven't been to one yet.

I pretty much live for the live show. It's one of the big reasons why I want to tour manage. I think I've been to 15 or so concerts this year. I'm hoping for even more in 2009. Most of the bands I like don't get booked to play in or around Nashville often or at all, so I take any opportunity to catch a good show.

Ah, I just realized you were from Nashville. Music city USA!!! I've heard Atlanta is becoming a pretty big place in the music industry as well. Tour managing sounds fun, you get to be on the road a lot with the bands. I'd love to go to lots of concerts every year.

Kelly

Pretty much the main music centers are Los Angeles, New York City, Nashville, and Atlanta.

LA and NYC are focused on most of the mainstream stuff like secular rock and rap. Nashville has always been a country and Christian center. It's developing an underground rock scene. Atlanta is big for rap right now.

Atlanta is big for rap right now, interesting. I still think the westcoast dominates the rap scene as a whole though; but it's interesting how it's spreading throughout the country more. A lot of people do freestyle battles all the time here in the westcoast; I even have :D.

Oh, I definitely agree about the west coast dominating the scene.

And I'm not meaning to stereotype, but a lot of African Americans live in Atlanta now. It's becoming a trendy place for wealthy African Americans to live. I constantly hear about rappers and athletes that live in or are moving to Atlanta. And as those rappers move into Atlanta, they build studios and companies, so the rap scene will continue to grow there.

And I gotta say this too....Driver has GOT to be made of steel! For one thing, he NEVER limps off the field like he did last night....and then to get right back in the game on the NEXT PLAY! Wow!!!! I love that guy!

But yeah they're an awesome team to watch...win or lose. They've sold out every game since 1960 & have a 74,000 member waiting list for season tickets!

Win or lose.....they're the team to watch! :):D:)

I also got to see several artists this past year that I NEVER thought I'd have the chance to see! The coolest definitely being Tom Petty! I watched the Superbowl pretty much just for his halftime show & that's when I found out he was going on tour. Then they said they were selling tickets in February for the entire tour & that they would sell out like that. The show in my area wasn't till August & was on a Tuesday night, so I was hesitant, but I didn't want to miss out, so I bought the tickets & it ended up all working out! :)

Also bought tickets for a friend's graduation gift to take her to see Journey. She bailed on me at the last minute & I was so upset, not only that she bailed, but that I wasn't gonna get to see Journey. But it turns out, my bro had a trip planned that weekend but it got cancelled the day before the show sp he went with me :)
