Right now I have a film camera -- an SLR -- that I really like, but I'd like to get a smaller digital camera to eliminate the hassle of buying & having film developed.
Of the reviews I've read, most seem to say that inexpensive "point and shoot" cameras (which are what I'm looking at) don't do well with low light. Obviously that's bad for someone who wants to use it at concerts. Anybody have any recommendations for a relatively inexpensive ($200 or less) digital camera?

I hear Nikons are good for concerts. Canon Rebel is supposed to be good too. But hopefully someone who has actually used a good camera at a concert can give you more specifics :p (Aaron??? :D)

Yeah, those are nice ... but more than I can spend right now. I'm hoping to find something that will get the job done for a little less. I'll probably have to sacrifice some quality to fit my budget.

got my camera at walmart for $300...it has some manual settings that are good for concert lighting and an awesome zoom. They are even cheaper now

Nice pics, Amanda. Looks like a great one of David Leonard belting it out in #2...aww, I love that guy.
Thanks for the suggestions so far! I have a gift card to Amazon, so I'll be hunting there. When it comes to low light, the pictures being grainy is my concern. I have that problem sometimes with the film camera I use now. But, poor lighting is poor lighting. I'm just looking for the best that I can get for my price range.

As I've been looking through reviews (ugh ... there are so many choices!), I keep coming across these two. But I'm still looking. I just get impatient. Ha. Plus, I get to see Jeremy in concert next week. But I doubt I could get it that fast now.

[Edit: Apparently I'm more impatient (and a faster researcher) than I thought. I went with the SD1100 IS -- in light pink. And got free 2-day shipping with a free trial of Amazon prime, so I should have it before the concert. Woot!]
