Who inspired you to play guitar?

Heh; my guitar-playing has a very interesting story...

Back when I was in high school, I decided I wanted to learn to play guitar. No, I don't know why; I just thought it'd be cool. I became disillusioned because things didn't come quickly and the guitar I had (that my parents had owned for years and pulled out of the basement for me) was very uncomfortable -- it had a high action and wide neck. It was a classical guitar. I quickly gave it up.

Shortly after graduating school, and after recommitting my life to Christ, a buddy talked about his dream of becoming a Christian recording artist. I, being the loudmouth I am, said I'd play bass for him. Of course, I didn't know how to play bass at the time -- a minor setback. So I went out, bought a bass, and started learning how to play.

Learning how to play meant a guy in my church showed me one or two things, and I practiced it, then I learned the fretboard (at least, the areas close to the neck). I started playing on Wednesday nights, and eventually on Sundays.

Eventually I bought an acoustic and started dinking around on that. Nothing serious, but I was able to string a couple chords together.

When my youth pastor left, I started leading the youth band on the bass. That is not good. So I started pursuing the guitar in earnest -- on Wednesdays, I might play two songs on bass, then the rest on the acoustic.

Now it's at the point where I'm almost exclusively an acoustic guitar player. A mediocre player, but still, a guitar player. I don't pick up my bass that often -- there's a teen gal in our church who plays bass, and an acoustic guitar adds to the flavor of the music.

So, what inspired me to play guitar? Necessity.

i started learning how to play bass when i was 11, but then my interest started going towards guitar... so then when i was 12 i bought my first guitar, and ever since then i have been hooked. i dont really think i was inspired to play... just kind of wanted to.
