On the fiction side, you should read Ted Dekker's Circle Trilogy: Black, White, & Red. I'm not a big fan of fantasy... but GREAT books. The analogies to the salvation story will make you cry!

amanda, i just borrowed Crazy Love from my pastor (who, interestingly enough, told me to "be careful" when i read it, because it apparently has a "burning on fire love for God or you're not a Christian" message :o ).
maybe between that being HIS review & your review not holding it as memorable, i'll return it to him & skip it.
as far as my reading last year...mostly the Bible...i read Fireproof Your Faith...started Recreate (Ron Luce), started Look Me In The Eye (John Elder Robison - he has asperger's syndrome, which is like the highest, most functional form of autism & this is the story of what it was like to grow up in the isolation of the autism spectrum - AMAZINGLY similar to noah!)...and i believe i started one other one (that clearly has either become a very low point of interest, or never was interesting to me, period! lol).
the key word being "started" in each of those statements! i love to read, i just have to be in the MOOD to read. and....those of you with kids know that, usually when that mood strikes, so do kids! hahaha then when the kids are playing on their own again & i CAN read, i don't want to anymore. i really want to finish Recreate & Look Me In The Eye, though....i'll post my personal review when i finish Recreate, because that book's focus is drawing your children back to yourself in the culture war & reclaiming family values. Look Me In The Eye - i'm not sure if any of you would be interested in a review on that one, but...obviously, it's of great interest to ME. :)

I didn't read as much as I would have liked to in 08 (hopeing to change that this year)
But I did read the 'Jesus Freak' series by dc Talk and VOM (Voice of the Martyers). Wow...talk about a cold dose of reality. Those books really did shake me to the core and I really do feel like God did a work in me through them. I reccomend them to anyone. :)

Amanda, the book is great.. it can get a little deep at times.. its def. not a book you can just read and be like ok cool I totally know what he is saying.. its like you read it and then go back and process what he said. I read it with a group of ladies from my church and we did it as a study. But it is def. a recommended book.

I just read Three Cups of Tea -- great book. It's about an American guy who's building schools in remote areas of Pakistan & Afghanistan.
And now I'm almost finished with Too Small to Ignore by Wess Stafford, the president of Compassion International. It's interwoven with stories from his childhood in Africa -- his parents were missionaries. Another great book -- really moving.

Lately, I've been reading Biblical counseling books. Right now, I'm finishing up How To Counsel God's Way by Bob Hoekstra. Before that, I read Create in Me A Pure Heart: Answers for Struggling Women by Kathy and Steve Gallagher, the founders of Pure Life Ministries.
I also read these books last year:
The Holy Spirit In You by Derek Prince
Spiritual Warfare by Derek Prince
The Mormon Scrapbook - a book about how to witness to Mormons
The True Vine by Andrew Murray
The Deeper Christian Life by Andrew Murray
Let Us Reason by Dr A.E. Wilder Smith
.....and parts of Praying God's Word by Beth Moore.

^ Derek Prince has lots of good and helpful books.
Paradoxes -- Max Nordan. (no, it's not a "Christian" book either, but I do love reading things that I can extract metaphors from! :))
God Chasers - Tommey Tenny.
The Amazing Story of Creation from Science and the Bible -- Duane T. Gish. (I love books about science).
Lately I haven't read many actual "books" (except the most important one! [or shall I say 66?!?] La Biblia!) ... but I do read a GIGANTIC amount of stuff on the internet, and every place else I can find something interesting. I should read more actual books... but I don't own many books and buying them costs money (it's not worth it to buy a mutitude of books I'll usually finish reading in several hours), and I don't have a library card >/ ... But I do have the internet!

My leader in a writing class I assist in teaching said that our class of Jr High-High Schoolers would be reading 'The Door Within' By Wayne Thomas Batson, so she asked that I read it too.
I must say, it's VERY well writen. Much like a moderen day Narnia...although it's catagorized as a youth novel though, I would sugest that older youth read it. It's more violent than I expected, but still, VERY good. I look forward to finishing it :)

No More Christian Nice Guy - pretty good book for guys
The Worship Leader's Handbook -- a good reference guide for worship leaders. It talks about everything from "my worship team consists of one guitar and one piano" to copywrite info/requirements.
